Swelling and bruising are very common after surgery and will slowly resolve over the first 2-3 weeks. You will also experience some discomfort, swelling, and bruising around where the fat was harvested. Most patients take 5-7 days off from work to recover after surgery.
You will be required to wear a compression garment over the areas which had liposuction for the first 4 weeks after surgery. After surgery, you will need to refrain from any rigorous activity for the first 2 weeks, after that point, you may gradually increase your activity level.
Dr. Sieber also recommends his patients get lymphatic drainage massages after surgery to help with bruising, swelling, and scar tissue formation. These may be started as soon as the next day after surgery.
Listen to your body and if it feels like you are overdoing it, then scale your activity back some.
