Let’s face it: Some of us were blessed with curvy, perfectly round backsides … and some of us weren’t.
At Sieber Plastic Surgery, we believe that every body is beautiful. We all have our own assets as well as things we’d like to work on. There’s nothing wrong with seeing something about your body that you’d like to improve and taking action to improve it.
When it comes to the buttocks, trends have changed over time. In the 90s, for example, low rise jeans were popular, and it seemed that every starlet had a tiny bottom matched with a tiny waist. Today, the Kardashian silhouette has taken over as the prime example of beauty and perfection. A curvaceous bottom paired with that classic tiny waist has made the female hourglass figure the most beautiful.
Again, however, not everyone was born with the hourglass silhouette in their genes. And despite hours at the gym and dutiful adherence to strict diets, this shape cannot be always be achieved on one’s own.
Enter: The Brazilian Butt Lift
Brazilian Butt Lifts: What Plastic Surgery Can Do to Reshape the Buttocks
A Brazillian butt lift is a form of buttock augmentation.
Buttock augmentation involves cosmetic procedures that augment the buttocks to improve the shape, size, and overall contour. There are several different ways to carry out buttock augmentation. For example, implants were used for many years but had a longer recovery time before the Brazilian butt lift came along.
The Brazilian butt left is a form of buttock augmentation that involves fat grafting. Sometimes, fat grafting is used alongside buttock implants, but generally, fat grafting can be used alone to achieve the patient’s desired contours.
What Is Fat Grafting or Fat Transfer?
A fat transfer procedure is one that involves two phases. The first phase is liposuction. During this procedure, a thin metal tube (called the cannula) is inserted into small incisions near where excess fat is to be removed on the body. The plastic surgeon will use this metal tube to first dislodge the fat and then remove it through the tube with mechanical suction.
Once the fat is removed, it is processed right away for re-insertion into the body. This is the second phase. Naturally, the fat will not be reinserted in the same places where it was removed. Instead, it will be reinserted in areas where the patient would like to see more volume.
Some patients, for instance, may be looking to add volume to their breasts. This is called a fat transfer breast augmentation. If only a small amount of volume needs to be added to the breasts for the desired results, fat transfer breast augmentation is an ideal solution. Fat can be removed from places where the patient would like to slim down, and the breasts can be augmented with the same fat that was removed. Many patients see this is a much more natural process compared to breast implants.
Fat Transfer for the Buttocks: The Brazilian Butt Lift
Of course, the same reasoning plays out with buttock augmentation. Many patients who would like a fuller, rounder buttocks don’t like the idea of inserting synthetic implants to achieve this goal. However, the re-insertion of natural fat that has simply come from another place on their own body is much more palatable.
This procedure of removing unwanted fat from certain parts of the body via liposuction and reinserting it into the buttocks for a more voluminous or evenly contoured outcome is called a Brazilian butt lift.
The procedure has been shown to be highly successful. Even though not all of the fat that is transferred from one part of the body to the buttocks will “survive,” plastic surgeons are adept at foreseeing the percentage of survivable fat and will adjust the amount that they remove and reinsert so that the achieved contours can be realized.
How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Last?
The fat that does survive in the new, grafted location on the buttocks will generally stay, thrive, and be permanent. Most of the fat that is transferred will survive, and you can expect to retain your results for at least several years. Some patients find that their fat transfer results last for several decades. Keep in mind that you’ll likely achieve far better and longer-lasting results if you continue on with a healthy diet and exercise. Maintaining a healthy body weight will maximize your chances of good results.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
Not everyone is a good candidate for Brazilian butt lift. For starters, your main point of concern should be the shape and size of your buttocks. Brazilian butt lifts will add volume to your backside — either overall or at key locations. For example, a Brazilian butt lift can “fix” hip dips. Reducing the size of your buttocks is not something that a Brazilian butt lift can achieve. However, liposuction may be something you’d want to look into if you want a smaller rear.
The second thing to consider is how much excess fat you have elsewhere on your body. If you tend to be quite slim overall, you may not have enough excess fat to build up the volume on your buttocks.
In the end, if a Brazilian butt lift interests you, the best way to know if you’ll be a good candidate is to book a consultation appointment with a revered and established plastic surgeon. Consultation appointments are critical when it comes to deciding on a cosmetic procedure that will work for your goals.
